Boundaries: A Story of Women, Cricket and Cultural Identity
Mountain House, CA: Coming to world cinema later this year, Boundaries is a powerful sports drama that tells the story of modern-day women challenging societal norms and constraints still prevalent today. Produced by Bay Area-based production houses Visual Narrative Films and Karnati Kreations, this feature film uses Cricket to highlight present-day conventions, women’s roles in society, and their pursuit of respect and recognition.
The tagline, “Breaking Barriers, One Game at a Time,” perfectly captures the core of the film’s message. According to the director of Boundaries, Kirandeep Karnati (KD), “Boundaries is a film that speaks to the heart of human resilience and the power of unity. It’s a story about breaking stereotypes and redefining roles within a community.”
“As someone deeply inspired by stories of transformation and empowerment, I wanted to bring to life a narrative that both entertains and inspires. This film is a tribute to every individual who dares to dream beyond the constraints of societal norms,” adds Karnati.
In the words of Unni Rav, the Director of Photography of this film and the Founder of Visual Narrative Films, “Boundaries puts a spotlight on stories we don’t often see in sports films. It encourages viewers to see things from new points of view. For this feature film, we’re going to be bringing together Hollywood-style storytelling and the emotional depth of South Asian drama, giving a fresh and honest take on both sports and immigrant experiences in the U.S.
According to Producer Olga Gabris, “As viewers follow a determined group of women on a mission to reclaim their independence through cricket, they are invited to break free from their own limiting beliefs. With a mix of heartfelt humor, personal struggles, and inspiring, last-minute triumphs, Boundaries promises to leave a lasting impression on cinema— redefining how women, immigrants, and sports are portrayed on the big screen.”
The film’s Executive Producers include Real Estate Expert & Investor Bharat Kona, Kazi Islam & Sumaiya Osman of ABR Lifestyle, and Lavanya Miryala and Hari Gutlapalli who are both IT professionals and entrepreneurs. Phani Nivarthi, also an IT professional joins the team as an Associate Producer.
The film also brings together a talented ensemble cast comprising actors with experience in short films, theater, and even Bollywood. Boundaries — Breaking Barriers, One Game at a Time was shot mostly in Mountain House, California, a city just outside the San Francisco Bay Area.
